Menzies Art Gallery of Scientific Discovery
In 2022 Jayde developed a series of artworks based on the theme of scientific discovery at Menzies School of Health Research. Seven novel species were selected for the project, six bacteria and a jellyfish, all discovered through the collaborative efforts of Menzies researchers with the wider scientific community.
Jayde had the opportunity to work directly with the organisms in the laboratory, examining bacterial growth on agar plates and under the microscope to capture reference images for the artwork. With the chance to work alongside with some of the researchers involved in these discoveries, this was a priceless opportunity for a budding young scientist.
Jayde’s artwork of Staphylococcus argenteus (a.k.a. Silver Staph) was selected for the cover image of the official journal of the Australian Society for Microbiology, ‘Microbiology Australia’ magazine (Oct 2022 edition).
Paintings: Staphylococcus argenteus, Burkholderia territorii, Burkholderia stagnalis, Chiropsella bart, Burkholderia mayonis, Burkholderia savannae, and Ornithobacterium hominis.
