Genomics Conference Jacket

Jayde painted this jacket in honour of being selected to attend the Summer Institute of Indigenous Peoples in Genomics (SING Australia) conference in Adelaide in 2022.

The artwork represents her journey from north to south (Darwin > Adelaide) with the new knowledge gained at the conference flowing through the background. The myriad of colours represents the types of lessons learnt from the fields of genetics and genomics, to ethics, archaeology, anthropology, and sociology.

Jayde is now on the organising committee for the 2023 SING Australia conference.

Future Feet Forward

These shoes were painted during the second lockdown of Melbourne in 2020. Jayde was living in a dorm room at university, and this second lockdown so soon after the first was no longer felt like a novel experience, just something to be endured.

This time evoked a range of feelings of isolation and longing. The artist was deeply missing her home and family in the NT and painting these shoes, imagining making steps towards a positive future, was calming and therapeutic.

Nephew Noah

These shoes were painted in 2021 to celebrate the first Christmas of Jayde’s nephew, Noah.
